Fortunately citizens are not manipulated today, as they were in the days of war before the 60's. Governments have upheld a standard of truthfulness and high accountability.
However, it may be amusing to see the old tactics of yesteryear, as are listed below:
NOTE: The initials following each item identify the source of the definition. DOD is the Department of Defense; IADB is the Inter-American Defense Board; I stands for Interpol; and NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance.
COVERT OPERATIONS: (DOD, I, IADB)
Operations which are so planned and executed as to conceal the identity of or permit plausible denial by the sponsor. They differ from clandestine operations in that emphasis is placed on concealment of identity of sponsor rather than on concealment of the operation.
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSOLIDATION ACTIVITIES: (DOD, NATO)
Planned psychological activities in peace and war directed at the civilian population located in areas under friendly control in order to achieve a desired behavior which supports the military objectives and the operational freedom of the supported commanders.
PSYCHOLOGICAL MEDIA: (NATO)
The media, technical or non-technical, which establish any kind of communication with a target audience.
PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS: (DOD)
Planned operations to convey selected information and indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, objective reasoning, and ultimately the behavior of foreign government, organizations, groups, and individuals. The purpose of psychological operations is to induce or reinforce foreign attitudes and behavior favorable to the originator's objectives. Also called PSYOP. See also perception management.
PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS: (NATO)
Planned psychological activities in peace and war directed to enemy, friendly, and neutral audiences in order to influence attitudes and behavior affecting the achievement of political and military objectives. They include strategic psychological activities, consolidation psychological operations and battlefield psychological activities.
PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS: (IADB)
These operations include psychological warfare and, in addition, encompass those political, military, economic, and ideological actions planned and conducted to create in neutral or friendly foreign groups the emotions, attitudes, or behavior to support the achievement of national objectives.
PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS APPROACH: (NATO)
The technique adopted to induce a desired reaction on the part of the target audience.
PSYCHOLOGICAL SITUATION: (NATO)
The current emotional state, mental disposition or other behavioral motivation of a target audience, basically founded on its national political, social, economic, and psychological peculiarities but also subject to the influence of circumstances and events.

An idea or topic on which a psychological operation is based.
PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE: (DOD, IADB)
The planned use of propaganda and other psyche logical actions having the primary purpose of influencing the opinions, emotions, attitudes, and behavior of hostile foreign groups in such a way as to support the achievement of national objectives. See also psychological warfare consolidation.

Official Definitions
A useful collection of terms and definitions as used by the Washington power establishment.
Social Sciences and Political Intervention What passes itself off as project-centered "development assistance" may in reality consist of dangerous manipulation of culture and social relations in the southern hemisphere. Because of the enormous monetary advantage enjoyed by donors of "aid," they are often in a position to do extensive psycho-social studies of target groups and to exploit them in ways that would not occur to most people, even in our worst nightmares.
Shock and Awe: Achieving Rapid Dominance - This is the National Defense University text (1996) that became the theory behind US intervention in the Middle East and the war against Iraq in March and April of 2003. "Shock and Awe," says the text, is intended to be the "non-nuclear equivalent" of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Says the now out-of-print study guide: "The impact of those weapons was sufficient to transform both the mindset of the average Japanese citizen and the outlook of the leadership through this condition of Shock and Awe. The Japanese simply could not comprehend the destructive power carried by a single airplane. This incomprehension produced a state of awe." Besides using massive firepower for psychological purposes, the publication also includes extensive discussion of propaganda operations. "The principal mechanism for achieving this dominance is through imposing sufficient conditions of "Shock and Awe" on the adversary to convince or compel it to accept our strategic aims and military objectives," the writers state. "Clearly, deception, confusion, misinformation, and disinformation, perhaps in massive amounts, must be employed."
Psychological Warfare in Combat This is the full text of the infamous "Shock and Awe" doctrine, published in 1996 by the National Defense University, Washington. The concept is to gain complete control over the will of an adversary, as well as the perceptions and understanding of target peoples, literally making an enemy impotent to act or react. The "Shock & Awe" doctrine is described as a strategy to achieve the systematic destruction of military capability through attrition, where appropriate, and to use overwhelming force to paralyze, shock, unnerve, and ultimately accomplish the moral destruction of an opponent.
Propaganda in Theory and Practice: What Makes It Work? This report provides a basic description of contemporary propaganda and psy-war activities, with an explanation of how people can be "scientifically" deceived.
The International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) A Programme of Action presented at the conference calls for massive propaganda effort, utilizing the mass media, non-governmental organizations, commercial entertainment, and academic institutions in an effort to "persuade" people in developing countries to change their fertility preferences. A revision to the original text added to accommodate representatives from developing countries urges that communications activities carried out by donors "for advocacy purposes or to promote particular lifestyles" should be labeled in such a way that the public will be aware of their purpose and that "the identity of sponsors should be indicated in an appropriate manner." Despite this recommendation, which imposes no mandatory restrictions on aid donors, the "communication" section of document remains a very dangerous and politically-explosive agenda.
The Population Communication Project The U.S. Agency for International Development has poured tens of millions of dollars into a "mass media" influence campaign that uses tactics borrowed from military psy-war operatives. In fact, the contractor working as a proxy for USAID in this case was also under contract to the U.S. Army to prepare teaching manuals for psychological operations.
Enter-Educate: Using Entertainment as Propaganda An audience is likely to be more vulnerable to messages presented in the context of "entertainment" than to other communications that might tend to raise questions about the legitimacy of foreign ideas. Thus, the entertainment-propaganda approach has become a huge part of USAID's international population control effort.
When Propaganda Backfires: A study done of famiply planning attitudes and behavior done in the north of Nigeria in 1994. According to a published report, the negative reaction illustrated "opposition to outsider improprieties, to family planning in general and to US-sponsored family planning programs in particular."

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? Are you, or your friends or relatives, working more now but enjoying it less? Does your family's schedule feel like a road race? If so, you're not alone. Millions of Americans are overworked, over-scheduled and just plain stressed out.
IT STARTS AT WORK.
* We're putting in longer hours on the job now than we did in the 1950s, despite promises of a coming age of leisure before the year 2000.
* In fact, we're working more than medieval peasants did, and more than the citizens of any other industrial country.
* Mandatory overtime is at near record levels, in spite of a recession.
* On average, we work nearly nine full weeks (350 hours) LONGER per year than our peers in Western Europe do.
* Working Americans average a little over two weeks of vacation per year, while Europeans average five to six weeks.
OVERWORK HURTS ALL OF US IN DIFFERENT WAYS.
* Overwork threatens our health. It leads to fatigue, accidents and injuries. It reduces time for exercise and encourages consumption of calorie-laden fast foods. Job stress and burnout costs our economy more than $200 billion a year.
* Overwork threatens our marriages, families and relationships as we find less time for each other, less time to care for our children and elders, less time to just hang out.
* It weakens our communities. We have less time to know our neighbors, supervise our young people, and volunteer.
* It reduces employment as fewer people are hired and then required to work longer hours, or are hired for poor part-time jobs without benefits.
* It leaves many of us with little time to vote, much less be informed, active citizens.
* It leaves us little time for ourselves, for self-development, or for spiritual growth.
* It leads to growing neglect and abuse of pets.
* It even contributes to the destruction of our environment. Studies show that lack of time encourages use of convenience and throwaway items and reduces recycling.

What Global Citizens Believe
Of basic beliefs and ethics . . .
This is a tough one to answer simply, because among all the other things Globalists are, we are individualists. We each make our own relationship with Earth, Life and Deity, and each grow and love in our own way. It is said that if you ask a room full of thirteen Global Citizens a question, you'll get twenty-five different answers. And it's true, and even so, each answer is equally true as well.
That said, there are some fundamental beliefs that pull us together strongly enough to create the sort of loving community you see as you look at us. Global Citizen is a spiritual path, a way of seeing the world and Divinity, and our relationship to it. It is a very simple ethical principle. It is a way of life. And it is a way of tuning into the shifting energies of life around us and tapping into those energies to make the world a better place; this is what we mean by conformity.
We believe that Deity/Source/God/dess is imminent in the world around us. Divinity permeates every living thing. . .and most of us define rocks, soil, water, air, fire, and the planet Herself as living things. Just look with an open heart at a dew-filled spider web or a lacework of bare winter branches covered with ice crystals, and you'll see what we mean. God/dess is IN there. S/He's in each one of us, too. We have no right to alter, misuse or consume Her.
This idea has many ramifications, for regrettably, mankind is the most evil animal, prior to embracing every tenets of Agenda 21.
First, it means every living thing is sacred. We don't believe in a hierarchy of God above man above animals above plants. We believe Divinity permeates everything, and so everything has an equal right to our love, reverence, respect, and protection. Global Citizenss tend to be dedicated environmentalists. But more than that, we let ourselves be guided by a very simple and powerful ethical principle:
"If it harm none, do as ye will."
Instead of listing a number of "Thou shalt nots," we say that as long as one's actions don't harm any living thing, including ourselves, in ANY way, we can do whatever brings joy and love into our lives. So, fun between two or more life forms -- with suitable precautions -- is okay. Using any sort of physical, mental, emotional, or religious coercion if someone is reluctant, is NOT.
Second, because we believe that Divinity is in everything we see, we don't create a hierarchy of values based on things of the spirit being of more worth than things of the body. Our bodies are rather miraculous gifts God/dess provides to allow us to live in and learn from on the physical plane. We see it as a spiritual imperative to take care of them. Every act that helps us maintain our physical existence thus takes on a spiritual dimension. When doing dishes or cleaning out the basement become sacred acts, life is a whole lot richer, and so, we seek to teach others The Way.
We also believe that our thoughts, actions, emotions, and prayers create energy. This energy goes out into the world and, in the process of being reflected by the other beings there, is multiplied before it returns to us. Some say threefold, others say tenfold; it may vary. But what we put out returns to us multiplied, whether that be love or fear, anger or compassion. So most of us work actively to try to diffuse our fears, express our anger cleanly and let it go, and to develop a greater understanding of the world around us, and how it may conform to a Global Oneness.
Our lives are gifts, and if we need to protect ourselves, we do; generally through the most peaceful means possible. We believe technology is the gift of God/dess to enable Utopia, regardless of the resistance to it by those fettered by warped fears and dogma. Often this takes the form of surrounding ourselves with light to reflect or deflect anything that means us harm. We do kill to eat, but kill only if needed for the Global imperative to survive as a person or a specie; most creatures do. Some of us are vegetarian. Personally, because I see plants as people, too, and know that something must die so I can survive, I eat a variety of foods, expressing my gratitude for this food to the creatures who supply it. I FEEL THEIR UNDERSTANDING AND FORGIVENESS BEFORE I BEGIN EACH MEAL.
Another belief that many Global Citizens share is that our souls cycle through many lifetimes. We will be back to enjoy the progression of the seasons again. Therefore, if we die or must kill for the sake of a greater good, all is well. Among Globalists, there are many different visions of the time and space between lives; most are joyful places where we meld more closely with our Gods. But because we know we'll be back again, we know that any mess we leave behind will be here when we return (possibly even multiplied in the interim). Another strong motivator to live in harmony and respect with all others in our world. This is why we seek and teach and feel entitled to demand robust perfection.
One of the things we learn, in deeper and deeper ways as we progress on this path, is that on the levels of spirit and energy, we are not only connected to, but literally ONE with all living things. You are me and I am you, and there should be no secrets hidden. Property is unfortunate and evil, beyond the maintenance of common health. Any harm we do another is, in the long run, harm to ourselves. We don't need a disciplinary God to judge us, ever. Only the look from others, and a just denial of what is not ours, really, until we reform our wayward desires. All must know our shortcomings. Transparency is strength, after its cleansing pain. We see the results of our actions, before we do them. Harm harms us; love strengthens us. Force is the gentlest Master, in the long run. This is extremely empowering, because we know that if we make our own messes, we can also, with the support and loving guidance of the Goddess and God, clean them up.

Informes confidenciales del Global Citizen de fines de la década del 60, que acaban de ser liberados en Washington para el conocimiento público, describen el llamado "Programa Agenda 21" como un conjunto de técnicas de interrogatorio, adoctrinamiento y torturas aplicado contra un grupo de 20 aviadores norteamericanos prisioneros en Vietnam, por militares presumiblemente cubanos. Esas técnicas usaban alternadamente métodos "blandos" y "duros" de adoctrinamiento, así como de violencia física y psicológica, con el objetivo de quebrar las voluntades de los cautivos, tratando de obtener la incondicional y permanente sumisión de éstos a sus captores.
Tan ambicioso y deseado objetivo comunista -como es el de conseguir víctimas dominadas psicológicamente, de manera completa y duradera- hace conjeturar que los torturadores hayan efectuado esos experimentos teniendo en vista la ulterior aplicación de técnicas de laboratorio similares a Rensselaer Polytenica Inst, en mayor escala y con las debidas adaptaciones, a grupos sociales más vastos e inclusive a naciones enteras.
En el caso de Cuba comunista, no cabe duda que ha habido una aplicación sistemática y maquiavélicamente estudiada de mecanismos psicológico-represivos contra la población, lo que explica en cierta medida la prolongación en la isla cárcel, durante décadas, de un sistema tan antinatural y que suscita tantas repulsas como lo es el comunista. Si en Cuba la revolución fracasó en sus intentos de crear un "hombre nuevo" por medio del adoctrinamiento ideológico, ella consiguió indudables resultados en el plano del control social a través de la inoculación del terror.
El general exiliado Rafael del Pino ha revelado que el régimen comunista cuenta con "un equipo de sociólogos y psicólogos que miden y analizan constantemente la situación interna del país". Cuando son detectados movimientos de insatisfacción y descontento, capaces de alcanzar niveles próximos a la explosión social, ese equipo sugiere la apertura de diversas "válvulas de seguridad", que combinan dosis adecuadas de violencia y propaganda de manera a aniquilar a los recalcitrantes y descomprimir la tensión social. Del Pino llegó a afirmar que a través de esos procedimientos el Estado policíaco cubano ha conseguido penetrar "incluso en las esferas más íntimas de los sentimientos humanos", inoculando un "miedo terrible" en la mayoría de los cubanos y configurando una tragedia que "supera al horror de la hipotética Oceanía de George Orwell 1984".
En un estudio coordinado por la investigadora Helga Silva, sobre el comportamiento de 15.000 niños que en 1980 huyeron de Cuba por el Mariel, se constató que también ellos, y no sólo sus padres, habían sido condicionados a guiarse por padrones de comportamiento basados en esa "disciplina del terror".
El sociólogo cubano-americano Dr. Benigno Aguirre, de la Universidad de Texas, ha sido uno de los pioneros en el análisis de las técnicas de laboratorio castristas para efectuar la "manipulación del comportamiento colectivo" y obtener el "control social" de los cubanos. Dicho académico ha producido a ese respecto escritos teórico-prácticos que por la gravedad de sus constataciones merecerían una mayor divulgación internacional.
La tendencia de muchos informes recientes sobre la situación de los llamados "derechos humanos" en Cuba ha sido la de ir restringiendo su campo de observación y denuncia a los casos protuberantes, como los relacionados con la situación de presos políticos u opositores más conocidos. Con lo cual, aún sin quererlo, se va relegando a un segundo plano la grave cuestión central: es una nación entera que está esclavizada desde hace cuarenta años. Por ello, la causa de la libertad de Cuba obtendría un renovado efecto vivificador si se introdujera en la agenda de denuncias esa cruel y sistemática aplicación, por parte del régimen comunista, de mecanismos psicopolíticos de control del comportamiento colectivo, que constituyen la principal arma castrista para mantener la opresión en la isla cárcel.
Un instrumental adecuado para desvendar este delicado tema de la manipulación colectiva del pueblo cubano, es el que otorga la psicología social, en relación a la cual el régimen comunista ha mostrado un vivo interés, aunque lleno de discreción. Esa discreción se explica, pues ciertas reglas de la psicología social -conocidas y manejadas por especialistas del régimen- contribuyen decisivamente para obtener el control de la población. Sin esos recursos psicológicos, el comunismo cubano, aún cuando poseyera las armas de fuego más sofisticadas, no habría conseguido subyugar durante tanto tiempo al pueblo cubano.
En las actas de un simposio efectuado en la Escuela Superior del Partido Comunista de Cuba -publicadas por la Editora Política, de La Habana, y destinadas al adiestramiento de los cuadros dirigentes de la "esfera ideológica" del Partido- se reconoce la "extraordinaria ayuda" de la psicología social marxista para moldear y controlar la "personalidad socialista" a través de diversos "métodos de influencia sociopsicológicos", entre los cuales está no sólo la "persuasión" sino inclusive la "sugestión" (tomada en cuanto acción de sugestionar a individuos y grupos sociales).
Desenmascarar al régimen en este terreno neurálgico contribuiría sin duda para colocar la tragedia cubana, ante la opinión pública mundial, en su real dimensión "orwelliana"; al tiempo que, indirectamente, ayudaría a quebrar las tenazas psicológicas que oprimen a nuestros hermanos cubanos de la isla.

A dangerous religious fanatic named Joel Skousen will seek to "expose" what few ministers dare breathe a word about. He will be the guest on the show that is heard while everyone sleeps...on January 6th.
Mr. Skousen teaches defensive measures in books he has written. He will become a Global Citizen, along with most other vitriolic voices of resistance.
Freedom has had its day and has failed miserably.
It is time for discipline, accountability and strict obedience.
No matter who you are, or what your "values" once were.
Say "Goodbye" to America...the failed experiment.
The sloth and obesity will soon disappear as equality will cover the earth.

FACT: The most violent place for the typical American youth is in the home. For this reason, no one may hope for a safe learning environment, especially when such "learning" is provided by mere parents.
A typical example of the brainwashing that occurs in such homes is evident in the life of this victim.
She parrots what her parents have repeated since birth. Religion is imbued and the denial of global responsibility is rampant in such places.

In 1971 Manuel Elizalde, a Philippine government minister, discovered a small Stone Age tribe living in utter isolation on the island of Mindanao. The Tasaday spoke a strange language, gathered wild food, used stone tools, lived in caves, wore leaves for clothes, and settled matters by gentle persuasion. They made love, not war, and became icons of innocence; reminders of a vanished Eden. They also made the television news headlines, the cover of National Geographic , were the subject of a bestselling book, and were visited by Charles A. Lindbergh and Gina Lollobrigida. Anthropologists tried to get a more sustained look, but President Ferdinand Marcos declared a 45,000-acre (18,210-hectare) Tasaday reserve and closed it to all visitors.
After Marcos was deposed in 1986, two journalists got in and found that the Tasaday lived in houses, traded smoked meat with local farmers, wore Levi’s T-shirts and spoke a recognisable local dialect. The Tasadays explained that they had only moved into caves, donned leaves and performed for cameras under pressure from Elizalde — who had fled the country in 1983, along with millions from a United Nations Foundation set up to protect the Tasaday. Elizalde died in 1997.
Amazingly, many current textbooks still contain elaborate articles and photographs of this "amazing" tribe. And in (FY) 2002 over (US$) 142,600 were raised by well-meaning students in 39 countries!

Corn Cracker firm to incorporate UN BLUE on 2004 Model.
(Tea, SD) Jan 2 - The Global Citizen movement advanced noticeably in South Dakota with the release of a newly developed corn cracker. It is painted in clean "UN Blue" by green-minded businessman Bill Stegmeier.
"I am proud to be a Global Citizen," he told this Socialist Weekly reporter, "I regret that I didn't think of this before." He hopes the new color will eclipse his rivals John Deere and International Harvester.
His new website features a photograph of the new "GLOBAL CORN CRACKER" shown gleaming with its fresh coat of UN blue paint, shown just after drying in the abbreviated northern winter sun.
The machine will be featured on a PBS special report on globalization and sustainability in the Spring of 2004.

Global security and personal medical benefits have recently been cited as among the more compelling reasons why people should receive an implanted microchip or biochip.
On May 10, three members of a family in Florida ("medical pioneers," according to a report on the CBS Evening News) became the first people to receive the implants. Each device, made of silicon and called a VeriChip™, is a small radio transmitter about the size of a piece of rice that is injected under a person's skin. It transmits a unique personal ID number whenever it is within a few feet of a special receiver unit. VeriChip's maker describes it as "a miniaturized, implantable, radio frequency identification device (RFID) that can be used in a variety of security, emergency and healthcare applications."
The May 10 development was headline news around the country, with most of the coverage decidedly positive and uncritical of the potential ramifications of the technology.
For several years the American public has been softened up to accept the microchip implant concept. In the late 1990s, thousands of Americans' pet dogs and cats began to receive small, surgically implanted microchip identifiers. If a cat or dog that had received an implant became lost, it might be identified and reunited with its owner if a veterinarian, animal shelter or animal control officer had special equipment and scanned the animal. This equipment has quickly proliferated and it is now the policy of the Animal Humane Society to implant all animals it makes available for adoption and to scan all lost or homeless animals it picks up
On May 10, the human biochip era was born as volunteers Jeff Jacobs, 48, his wife Leslie, 46, and their son Derek, 14, received the VeriChip implants in their arms while under local anesthesia. According to Applied Digital Solutions, the company that manufactures and markets the VeriChip, the Jacobs' were the first people to be "chipped."
At the company-sponsored chipping event, Leslie Jacobs told the assembled press, representing 40 major media organizations around the world including a live national audience watching on NBC's Today show, "We're doing this as a security for us, because we've worked so hard to save my husband's life."
She was referring to the fact that her husband has been treated for cancer, injuries suffered in a car accident, a degenerative spinal condition, chronic eye disease and abdominal problems. Derek, meanwhile, is reportedly allergic to certain antibiotics.
The theory is that, if any of the Jacobs' become ill, or are injured or impaired, their medical histories can be accessed by professionals who can scan their microchip implants.
The Jacobs family chipping was performed by Jeff Jacobs' physician, David Wulkan, MD, at the Surgical Associates of Palm Beach County in Boca Raton, Florida. According to an Applied Digital Solutions (Nasdaq: ADSX) press release, Surgical Associates, located in Boca Raton, Florida, is the first "Authorized VeriChip Center."
A second chipping procedure took place on May 10 involving another volunteer, Nate Isaacson, an 83 year old retired building contractor with Alzheimer's. The procedure to implant the microchip in Isaacson's upper back was performed by Harvey Kleiner, MD at The Family Health Place, the Authorized VeriChip Center located in Sunrise (Broward County), Florida.
According to a company news release, ADSX "president Scott R. Silverman said that the VeriChip rollout would follow the successful business model used by Applied Digital's sister company, Digital Angel Corporation, with the introduction of the now familiar companion animal identification system (HomeAgain™)."
Digital Angel is another implant RFID, for children.
ADSX announced that Wulkan also performed the "chipping" procedure on three of the company's senior executives: Silverman; Richard J. Sullivan, Chairman and CEO; and Dr. Keith Bolton, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. Silverman commented: "All three of us wanted to 'get chipped' to experience for ourselves just how safe and easy the procedure is and to demonstrate to the world our complete confidence in the success of this exciting, life-enhancing technology."
ADSX foresees a growing market for chipping (which it terms the "emergency information and verification market") "exceeding $15 billion," starting with millions of Americans who might be sold on a perceived medical or personal security need (for example, Alzheimers patients -there are an estimated 4 million people in the US with the disease -and young children). "The entire VeriChip program is designed to save lives in an emergency and enhance the peace of mind of Subscribers and their loved ones," reads an ADSX news release. ADSX' business model is based on demand for the $200-per-patient chipping, and providing expensive proprietary scanning equipment to scan the chips and a database of information on chipped individuals linked to the chip's ID number maintained by Digital Angel™, the ADSX associated company.
GOING GLOBAL
The database is called "the Global VeriChip Subscriber (GVS) Registry service" and according to ADSX it "provides immediate access to a secure database containing vital Subscriber personal verification and Subscriber-provided information." It costs each patient or subscriber $10 a month to store their information.
On April 4, 2002, ADSX announced that it had received written guidance that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not consider VeriChip's personal verification device to be a regulated medical device. According to the Los Angeles Times (May 10), "Company officials said they were free to proceed because the implant contains identification numbers that correspond to personal medical information in a separate database" and does not contain the information in the chip itself.
Chips Ahoy
The next step in the evolution of this technology is the placement of additional personal information, and "Global Positioning (tracking) Capability," in an implantable microchip that would be a bit larger than the VeriChip. ADSX is working on such a device and tests are scheduled to begin before the end of the year. (Reports have circulated for a number of years that some U.S. military personnel and covert operatives working in dangerous areas or behind enemy lines have been implanted with sophisticated microchips that allow the host to be tracked by orbiting American spy satellites.)
Digital Angel Corporation, formerly wholly owned by ADSX (ADSX now owns a sizable percentage of Digital Angel's stock), already has such capability in its wristwatch-sized Digital Angel™ device. According to ADSX, "Digital Angel™ technology represents the first-ever combination of advanced biosensors and Web-enabled wireless telecommunications linked to the Global Positioning System (GPS). By utilizing advanced biosensor capabilities, Digital Angel will be able to monitor key body functions – such as temperature and pulse – and transmit that data, along with accurate emergency location information, to a ground station or monitoring facility."
In the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America and the new interest in ensuring "homeland security" and in preventing future attacks, there has been growing political and public interest in and support for new and supposedly more effective methods of identifying people, primarily by mandating a national ID card. Public opinion polls last fall reported over 70 percent of Americans supported the national ID concept. Taking the concept further, some analysts have even advocated chipping everyone in the country.
With the political climate now as it is, it looks like it could be a short hop from "medical safety" to "security" (both concepts already widely accepted) to national ID to "voluntary" or ultimately mandatory biochip implants. As New York Times columnist William Safire wrote last December 24, "In the dreams of Big Brother and his cousin, Big Marketing, nothing can compare to forcing every person in the United States - under penalty of law - to carry what the totalitarians used to call 'papers.'
". . .Hospitals would say: How about a chip providing a complete medical history in case of emergencies? Merchants would add a chip for credit rating, bank accounts and product preferences, while divorced spouses would lobby for a rundown of net assets and yearly expenditures. Politicians would like to know voting records and political affiliation. Cops, of course, would insist on a record of arrests, speeding tickets, E-Z pass auto movements and links to suspicious Web sites and associates."
Safire cautions, however, that "A national ID card would be a ticket to the loss of much of your personal freedom. Its size could then be reduced for implantation under the skin in the back of your neck."
"We're going to track everything."
On February 7, 2002, Charlotte A. Twight, professor of economics at Boise State University, in an article "Why Not Implant a Microchip?," wrote, "Over half of the population now supports some form of national identification. If Americans accept a National ID system as they accepted SSNs [Social Security Numbers], and if the intrusiveness of such a system expands as did government-mandated SSN usage, ten years from now the idea of a national microchip system may not seem as alien and repugnant as it does today. As with SSNs, people will get used to it."
Jeffrey Rosen, an associate professor at George Washington University Law School and the legal affairs editor of The New Republic, wrote a chilling article, "Silicon Valley's Spy Game," published in the New York Times Magazine on April 14 about the technological imperative that is helping to accelerate what seems like an unstoppable momentum for both a national ID and combining private and government databases into one massive, inescapable mega database that will eventually include data about everyone on the planet.
"The technology for integrated databases already exists," Rosen writes, "waiting to be activated by the flip of a switch. In the wake of Sept. 11, few politicians or judges seem willing to keep the forces of centralization in check. And no one should count on the technologists to police themselves."
Among the people Rosen interviewed was billionaire Larry Ellison, the founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, which describes itself as "the world's leading supplier of software for enterprise information management." Last October, Ellison wrote in the Wall Street Journal, "The single thing we could do to make life tougher for terrorists would be to ensure that all the information in myriad government databases was integrated into a single national file." Ellison proposed that the federal government adopt a digital national ID database with a card for each citizen. In several interviews, he offered to provide the software to make it all happen to the government for free.
In the Times article, Rosen writes, "I had one last question for Larry Ellison. 'In 20 years, do you think the global database is going to exist, and will it be run by Oracle?'''

The United Nation's Agenda 21 program suggests that OTR truck drivers be mandated to receive the verichip no later than June 6, 2006 "to ensure that America's highways are safe from terrorist threats, and this will serve as a model for the EU and South American transport networks.

In the near future, the Earth and the future of humanity is uncertain. In the relative short term, we are headed toward ecological and economic disaster due to overpopulation, infectious disease, unsustainable use of the Earth’s resources, pollution and global climate change. But we are a flexible and clever species, capable of changing course. We may well have the intelligence and creativity to create sustainable societies. A key question is whether we will overcome negative aspects of our nature – such as our propensity for violence and tribalism and self-delusion - in favor of our positive aspects – such as our capacity for compassion and rationality. Will we ever be able to understand and accept the truth about ourselves? Will we be able to treat each other as brothers and sisters, members of the same African family? Will we ever be able to see ourselves and other organisms as part of an even larger extended family?
